CM Punk was in rare form at the end of Raw

CM Punk is definitely one of the best on the mic of this generation, however his promo last night put him in the rarefied air of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.  In what I consider the best promo cut by any WWE superstar in at least five year, CM Punk absolutely unleashed on John Laurinitis, in absolute epic fashion.  If this is built properly, this really can turn into the Austin vs. McMahon of this decade.  Amazing stuff, I enjoyed the use of Foley and the fact that Johnny Ace finally took a physical stand for himself and not going the route of the “chickenshit heel.”  Overall I enoyed the entire episode, the beginning lulled a bit for me, but Cena “embracing the hate” and the ending were enough to make the slow parts worth it.

If Foley is the master of the cheap pop (and he is) and Cena is the master of mixed crowd emotions (and he is), then CM Punk is the master of barely controlled rage. It’s strange that I watch wrestling now just to hear people talk. We’ve come miles from being told to say our prayers and take our vitamins.
